Le Corbusier: Couvent de Sainte-Marie de la Tourette
I have decided to post more about the city of Lyon and the surroundings. There is so many things to be seen, so many places to visit!
It's not the first time I'm living here (I lived here six years ago, came back a plenty for concerts, then worked again here last year, and definitely moved this year), but I never shared too much about it, whereas it is a really inspiring environnement.

So, this is a beautiful and unusual place to visit: a convent built by one of our most famous french architect, Le Corbusier.

Le Corbusier

Built in 1953, for the Dominicans, it is still really impressive.

Sadly the church was still in works of renovation, when we visited it, last week, but it made me the same austere but spiritualistic impression than the chapel in Fiminy: such a progression in primarily colour, faced to ground, while the concrete walls, really high, tend toward God. Impressive.

It is still a Convent, so visit are restricted to each sunday, at 15:00. A pleasant father from the community let us (a few group of ten persons) have a walk inside those walls. The Convent is in Eveux, a little village near L'Arbresle, 30 km from Lyon.

Le Corbusier isn't my favourite architect of all time, but that convent is certainly impressive! :)

Thanks! Yes, it could be difficult to find it "beautiful" conventionaly, at first time, but we can only be impressed by his conceptulisation work!

This reminds me much of "Weissenhof Siedlung" , a quarter in Stuttgart where I went to study.

There were buildings from Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe, Walter Gropius, Victor Bourgeois to name a few. It was very intersting to look at!

I heard about it, but never visited! I did not known it has been turned into a university: it should be cool to work in such an environnement (if you forget about some architectures mistakes that don't go really well with time passing by, sometimes...)
I google it, and there is a article in franch wikipedia: I sould definitely visit!

Oh sorry for the confusion! I went to study in Stuttgart but the university is not at Weissenhof Siedlung, unfortunately ^^ ( though it is a nice place to study modern architecture )
Stuttgart and its surrounding is nice, a very green city! I can definitively recommend a visit :) I miss living there.
